The Archons Among Us: Oligarchs as Demiurgic Colonial Powers

The Billionaire (E)lite's Material War on our Spiritual Reality

In the Nag Hammadi texts, discovered buried in the Egyptian desert in 1945, the Gnostics warned of invisible rulers called Archons—extramundane gatekeepers who control material reality while keeping human souls trapped in ignorance. These were not metaphorical villains. The Gnostics described them as actual forces who feed on humanity’s creative and spiritual energy, maintaining power not through overt violence but through the strategic distribution of agnoia—ignorance of the true system.

If you’ve felt the creeping sense that something fundamental has been stolen from you—your attention, your autonomy, your ability to imagine alternatives to the current order—you are experiencing what the Gnostics would consider Archonic occupation. And the occupiers have names:

Musk,

Bezos,

The Zuck,

Thiel,

Ellison,

JD

and of course…Trump.

These seven figures are not simply wealthy. They operate as modern rulers the infrastructure of information, capital and political possibility. But unlike the mystical gnōstikós ancient texts, these oligarchs wield their power through platforms, algorithms and surveillance systems that extract not just labor and resources, but consciousness itself. They are the inheritors and continuers of a 500-year colonial project, now operating at digital speed and planetary scale.

The Demiurge as Ultimate Colonizer

At the center of Gnostic cosmology sits the Demiurge—Yaldabaoth, the blind creator god who fashioned material reality as a prison and declared, “I am God and there is no other.” This is not just theological drama. It is a precise description of colonial logic: erase all other cosmologies, claim absolute authority, extract everything and call it civilization.

The Demiurge did not create the world out of love or wisdom. He created it out of deficiency—what Gnostics called kenoma, emptiness. And he populated it with Archons, administrative powers who maintain the system through epistemic violence: controlling what counts as knowledge, what counts as reality, what counts as possible.

Sound familiar? It should. Because Silicon Valley operates on identical principles.

When tech oligarchs promise to “organize the world’s information” or “connect everyone” or “make humanity multi-planetary,” they are not offering liberation. They’re offering a counterfeit gnosis—false knowledge that deepens the prison while promising escape. This is the Archonic playbook, perfected over millennia and now executed through lines of code.

The Seven Archons of Late Capitalism

The Torment of St. Anthony

Donald Trump: The Archon of Settler Ethno-Nationalism

Trump’s power lies not in policy but in spectacle. He has always been a literal entertainer with the ability to manufacture reality-distorting narratives that keep populations engaged in theatrical combat rather than systemic awareness. His entire empire, from real estate to reality TV to the presidency, has been built on displacement: gentrification, border walls, the explicit nostalgia for a settler-colonial past when extraction was unquestioned and hierarchies were explicit.

“Make America Great Again” is NOT a slogan. It is a spell. MAGA, an invocation of the colonial matrix that his base instinctively recognizes and his opponents cannot escape debating. He keeps souls trapped not through sophisticated argumentation but through constant disruption of stable meaning itself. Every scandal, every lie, every outrageous claim serves the Archonic function: maintain agnoia through information and memetic chaos.

Elon Musk: The Archon of False Transcendence

Born to apartheid South Africa emerald mine wealth, Musk inherited extraction as birthright. His companies—Tesla, SpaceX, Neuralink, X—all promise escape from material limitations while deepening material control. Electric cars to save the planet (ignore the lithium mines displacing indigenous communities). Mars colonies for humanity’s future (ignore Earth’s present collapse). Brain chips for human enhancement (ignore the colonization of consciousness itself).

Musk’s X acquisition reveals the game: He bought the town square, opened the “free speech” floodgates and let algorithmic chaos govern. Not because he is incompetent, but because confusion serves power. A population arguing about reinstatement policies and verification checkmarks is not organizing against oligarchy. This gatekeeper offers an open door to Mars—an escapist pipedream—while the actual liberation (collective power over shared resources) becomes unthinkable.

Jeff Bezos: The Archon of Digital Enclosure

Amazon is the perfected prison of convenience. Need something? It arrives tomorrow. Need to host your website? AWS infrastructure underlies half the internet. Need groceries? Whole Foods at your service. Bezos has enclosed what was once commons—retail, logistics, computing infrastructure and reduced the friction to order completion into his own private territory.

Mercifully, it is an achievement of the modern world. Severely, this monopsony is digital feudalism masquerading as service. The “everything store” is not just a business model; it is the rival to local economies, craft traditions and community self-sufficiency. Every Amazon box is the opposition of a local bookstore, hardware shop or marketplace where human beings once encountered each other as more than consumers. Bezos doesn’t just sell products. It is a default of the modern world. I am not trying to drum up unnecessary anger. I love my speedy delivery too. But these are the meta-questions we have to ask ourselves if we are going to complain about the billionaire (E)lite.

Is he planning his escape? Blue Origin rockets aimed at space while Amazon warehouse workers urinate in bottles to meet productivity quotas. A real juxtaposition to consider.

Mark Zuckerberg: The Archon of Surveillance Plantation

Facebook promised connection and delivered extraction. Every like, comment, photo and message becomes raw material for algorithmic processing—your intimacy converted into data, your relationships transformed into engagement metrics, your identity packaged and sold to advertisers. This is surveillance capitalism, but it’s also something older: the plantation economy, where human beings become crops to be harvested.

Zuckerberg’s Metaverse project reveals the ultimate Archonic ambition: to create a complete replacement reality where the colonized can “own” virtual land, “express” themselves through corporate avatars and “connect” through mediated simulation. It’s the reservation system gone digital—a pacification technology that offers the appearance of autonomy within total control.

The Gnostics warned that Archons create counterfeit worlds to trap souls. Zuckerberg isn’t speaking metaphorically when he talks about building the Metaverse. He’s attempting to literalize the Archonic function: manufacture false pleroma (the Gnostic fullness of reality) so compelling that material liberation becomes irrelevant.

While I am grateful for the connections and utility that the socials have brought me, I wish to highlight the Gnostic parallels at hand.

Peter Thiel: The Archon of Ideological Imperialism

Palantir—named after the seeing stones in Tolkien’s mythology, instruments that Saruman used to surveil Middle Earth for Sauron—builds the infrastructure of modern surveillance. ICE uses it to track immigrants. The NSA uses it for mass data collection. Intelligence agencies worldwide use it to monitor populations. Thiel doesn’t just accept the surveillance state; he builds its nervous system.

But Thiel’s true Archonic function operates at the ideological level. His promotion of seasteading (creating new territories beyond government jurisdiction), his investments in life-extension technologies (literal vampiric capitalism—young people’s blood transfused into aging billionaires) and his explicit anti-democratic writings all serve the same purpose: naturalizing oligarchy. When Thiel writes that “competition is for losers,” he’s not being provocative. He’s stating colonial logic plainly—monopoly is the goal, hierarchy is natural and the masses exist to be governed by their betters.

He finds promising young men from working-class or marginalized backgrounds—like JD Vance—and transforms them into colonial intermediaries, proof that the system rewards merit while actually demonstrating that access to elite power requires adopting elite ideology.

JD Vance: The Archon of Colonial Mimicry

Vance represents what postcolonial theorist Homi Bhabha called “colonial mimicry”—the colonized subject who identifies with the colonizer, becoming the ideal intermediary because he appears to be one of the colonized while serving elite interests. Hillbilly Elegy performed this function perfectly: poverty porn that blamed Appalachian communities for their own extraction, written by someone who escaped through elite institutions and now serves oligarchic power.

From coal extraction to data extraction, Appalachia’s story is American colonialism’s story. Vance’s role—backed by Thiel’s money and Trump’s political machinery—is to gatekeep authentic populism, ensuring that working-class rage gets channeled toward culture war rather than class war. He’s the Archon who speaks the colonized’s language while serving the Demiurge.

Larry Ellison: The Archon of Information Enclosure

Ellison maintains the lowest profile among these seven, which is precisely what makes him dangerous. Oracle databases underlie vast institutional infrastructure—governments, corporations, financial systems. He’s not the public face of tech oligarchy; he’s the record-keeper, the archivist of the colonial matrix.

His purchase of 98% of the Hawaiian island of Lanai demonstrates the colonial impulse at its purest: private ownership of territory, the transformation of indigenous land into personal playgrounds. But his real power operates in the information space—who gets recorded in the database, who gets erased, what counts as official reality. In Gnostic terms, he maintains the Demiurge’s ledger.

The Archonic Colonial Matrix in Operation

These seven, while competing, occupy different nodes of the same extractive system. Trump provides political spectacle and settler nationalism. Musk and Bezos control physical and digital infrastructure. Zuckerberg colonizes social connection. Thiel builds surveillance apparatus and ideological frameworks. Vance legitimizes oligarchy to the working class. Ellison maintains the databases that make it all function.

Together, they execute what decolonial theorist Aníbal Quijano called the “colonial matrix of power”—overlapping systems of exploitation that operate across economic, political, cultural, and epistemic domains simultaneously. But they’ve updated the colonial playbook for the digital age.

Where historical colonialism required ships and armies, digital colonialism requires platforms and algorithms. Where land theft required violence, data extraction requires only Terms of Service agreements—colonial treaties by another name, non-negotiable and enforced through exile from digital society. Where colonial powers once enclosed physical commons (forests, grazing lands, water sources), tech oligarchs enclose digital commons (communication, knowledge, connection itself).

And like all colonial powers, they promise that extraction equals progress, that occupation equals opportunity, that surveillance equals security. The Archonic lie hasn’t changed in millennia—only its delivery mechanism.

Gnostic Decolonization: Knowledge as Liberation

The Gnostics and decolonial theorists agree on something crucial: oppressive systems maintain power through ignorance of the system itself. What Gnostics called agnoia, decolonial theory calls “epistemic violence”—the control of what counts as knowledge, the erasure of alternative ways of knowing.

This article is an act of double gnosis: naming the Archons diminishes their power. You cannot resist what you cannot see. And once seen clearly, oligarchic power looks less like inevitability and more like choice—a system maintained not by its strength but by our participation.

Resistance begins with attention sovereignty. Every hour spent scrolling is an hour of extracted consciousness. Every subscription is a tributary payment to digital landlords. Every algorithmic recommendation is a suggestion from your occupier about what you should think, want or become.

Decolonial liberation requires building alternatives: mutual aid networks, platform cooperatives, analog knowledge preservation, land back movements, local economies. Not as lifestyle choices but as spiritual warfare—the construction of pleroma (Gnostic fullness) against kenoma (colonial emptiness).

Indigenous cosmologies—including Maya calendar systems and ancestral spiritual technologies—offer what Gnostics called pneumatic wisdom: knowledge that comes from spirit rather than material authority. When you read oligarchs’ charts through Mayan astrology, you’re not just being clever. You’re accessing forms of knowledge that corporate algorithms can’t colonize because they emerge from entirely different epistemological ground.

Conclusion: Beyond the Archons

These seven men are not invincible gods. They’re symptoms of a sick system, inheritors of colonial logic, Archonic functionaries who’ve mistaken their wealth for wisdom and their power for permanence. Every empire falls. Every Demiurge proves blind. Every Archon discovers that the souls they tried to trap were never truly contained.

The Gnostic promise—that knowledge liberates—meets the decolonial promise: that naming empire begins its dissolution. These oligarchs can only rule in darkness, through the maintenance of ignorance about how their power actually operates.

You’ve just received gnosis. The Archons have been named. The colonial matrix has been mapped. The material war on spiritual reality has been exposed.

What you do with this knowledge determines whether it becomes mere information or actual liberation. The Archons among us are counting on your passivity. Prove them wrong.
