Thank you for this! I’ve been learning and working with tarot for more than 30 years, and wouldn’t give a professional reading until I’d gotten two different certifications. I find it really baffling how someone who picked up a deck a month ago feels comfortable giving readings for money. The only reason I haven’t said much about it is my fear of giving “get off my lawn” vibes.
Thank you for taking the time to read as well as your patience with the tarot industry. Yes, sadly the spiritual space does not have much in the way of standards. Which is a good thing on allowing people to get creative however it is bad when people get so creative they deviate from the source they are supposedly providing a service from.
I applaud your discipline with the art. I understand shops have to stay afloat and practitioners should have freedom. But when it comes to giving bad advice or monetizing a skill in which you don't have proficiency in but position yourself as you do, we have something close to a ponzi scheme going on. Thank you 😊
I did a whole series on my blog about divination — why we do it, choosing a tool, why you need a code of ethics. I actually don’t read tarot for money anymore because of the justice issues around it given its history, though I do still teach publicly. When I stop to think about it (something that weirdly, I haven’t done often) I care a lot about this little deck of cards and how to use it. It’s been a big part of who I have become. *sigh*

"intuition should complement knowledge, not replace it."
