The Dog That Smells Injustice

In the Mayan calendar, the tenth day sign—Oc in Yucatec, Tz’i in K’iche’—carries the wisdom of the dog, humanity’s oldest companion and most faithful guardian. Those born under this sign are natural detectives, gifted with an uncanny ability to trace every action track, to smell deception from distances that others cannot perceive. They are the ones who cannot turn away when they witness injustice, who feel compelled—almost tormented—by the need to reveal truth and restore balance.

Today marks the beginning of the Oc/Tz’i Trecena, where we stand at a moment when this energy is desperately needed. When the guardians have become the looters. When those who claim spiritual authority have weaponized faith itself for personal enrichment and political power. Let’s identify the problem, solution and for my paid subscribers I invite you to engage in the attached ritual to attune to the energy of this Trecena.

The Problem: Christian Supremacy as Political Shield

Let us speak plainly. The architects of corruption in the United States have hijacked the cultural zeitgeist of Christianity—not to live by its teachings, but to rally masses through cherry-picked rhetoric that reaffirms their supremacy. Whether the original sources of these Abrahamic faiths would recognize what is being done in their name is, frankly, beside the point. What matters is that religious language has become a cloak for the most brazen forms of theft and favoritism, a rhetorical fortress behind which the corrupt can hide while proclaiming themselves as upholders of traditional values and American prosperity.

This is not Christianity. This is supremacy wearing a cross. This is power consolidation disguised as prayer. And it must be named for what it is if we are to change the trajectory of its consequences.

The dog can smell this from miles away. The Oc/Tz’i knows that something rotten festers at the heart of the system, and no amount of religious pageantry can mask the stench.

A Case Study in Corruption: The Binance Pardon

Consider the pardon of Changpeng Zhao, known as ‘CZ,’ the founder of Binance, granted on October 21st, 2025. Here we have a man convicted of violating the Bank Secrecy Act—not a minor transgression but a systematic failure that enabled over 100,000 suspicious transactions tied to terrorist financing, ransomware, child sexual abuse material, darknet markets and a catalog of other horrors that should make any moral person recoil.

Binance itself pled guilty to multiple serious charges and paid record-setting criminal fines. The weight of accountability, it seemed, was descending. Justice, however incomplete, appeared to be taking its course.

And then came the pardon…

What makes this particularly grotesque is not merely the act itself but the transparent web of financial entanglements that preceded it. Binance invested billions in a stablecoin—USD1—created by World Liberty Financial, a company controlled by the sitting president and his children. This investment generates tens of millions of dollars in annual profits for the presidential family. The timing of the pardon, following these massive investments and business partnerships, suggests not the exercise of mercy but a quid pro quo so naked it that is embarasses the Teapot Dome Scandal of the 1920s.

The only meaningful benefit of the pardon for CZ is the potential lifting of restrictions preventing him from running Binance—the very thing his plea agreement explicitly prohibited. Power, in other words, restored to someone who facilitated the financing of child abuse and terrorism, because that person enriched the family of the man with the power to grant pardons. Epstein is not the only abusive billionaire the 1% wants to protect.

Crime is legal, it turns out, as long as you are rich enough to buy your way out of consequences.

And where are the religious leaders and influencers who claim to speak for morality? Where are those who wrap themselves in the mantle of Christian virtue? Silent. Complicit. Celebrating, perhaps, because the corrupt leader has been useful to their own accumulation of power.

Oh and I heard they are calling the latest White House construction the Epstein Ballroom (sarcasm).

The Deeper Crisis: When Faith Becomes a Weapon

The Oc/Tz’i sign teaches us about discipline and justice, but also about something more fundamental: the healing power of simple, unconditional love. Just as dogs give their love freely, without calculation or condition, true spiritual leadership must emerge from a place of service, not domination.

What we are witnessing is the opposite. We are seeing religious supremacy—the insistence that one path, one interpretation, one way of understanding the divine must dominate all others and that this domination justifies the most flagrant violations of the very ethical principles these traditions claim to uphold.

The separation of church and state, that hard-won principle that has protected both religious freedom and democratic governance, is being subliminally and systematically eroded. Not through honest debate, but through the backdoor of appointment and the corrupting influence of money. Religious rhetoric is used to justify policies that benefit the wealthy and powerful, while the vulnerable are told their suffering is God’s will.

This is the work of coyotes, not shepherds. Of those who would devour the flock while claiming to protect it.

The Solution: Alternative Spiritual Leadership Must Rise

Here is what we need: spiritual leaders who actually LEAD. Not performatively, not for social media clout or tax-exempt status, but with the courage to stand against religious supremacy in all its forms and to advocate for a perennial understanding of spirituality—one that recognizes truth across traditions, that maintains the vital separation of church and state and that refuses to allow faith to be weaponized for political gain.

We need voices that can articulate why diversity of belief is not a threat but a strength. We need teachers who understand that the divine manifests in countless ways and that no single tradition holds a monopoly on wisdom or righteousness. We need prophets who will name corruption when they see it, regardless of which party or which claimed faith is responsible.

This is where the justice of Oc/Tz’i will rise.

The dog sign is not content with empty words. It demands action. It demands truth-telling that costs something, that risks something. The ancient Maya understood that the dog was the guide through darkness, the companion who would not abandon you even in the Underworld. What we need now are spiritual guides willing to enter the darkness of our current political moment and lead people back toward the light—not with dogma, but with the healing power of authentic love and justice.

What This Requires

Expertise:

Alternative spiritual leaders must be scholars as well as practitioners. They must understand comparative religion deeply enough to debate with those who claim exclusive truth. They must know the histories, the texts, the philosophical foundations well enough to expose when those traditions are being twisted for political ends.

Courage:

This will not be comfortable. Speaking truth to power never is. Alternative spiritual leaders will face accusations of being ‘anti-Christian’ or ‘anti-religious’ when, in fact, they are defending authentic spirituality from its hijackers. They will need the courage of Oc/Tz’i—the loyalty to truth over social acceptance, the discipline to maintain integrity under pressure. There will also be the need for Christian Mystic teachers to rise to the occasion in order to showcase the esoteric understanding of Christ that is radically different from the consumer economy understanding of Christ.

Practical Engagement:

This cannot remain theoretical. Alternative spiritual leaders must enter the public square, participate in interfaith dialogues, write op-eds, create educational content, run for office if necessary. They must build coalitions with others who understand that democracy depends on keeping religious dominance in check.

The Dog Knows the Way Home

In Maya folklore, it is said that the dog witnessed the creation of the world and ran everywhere telling the secrets of creation.

The dog still knows. The dog still sees. The dog still guides.

Those with the Oc/Tz’i energy understand that justice is not optional, that the scent of corruption cannot be ignored, that the path through darkness requires a faithful guide. The current moment demands that this energy awaken fully, that those who carry it step forward not with hatred but with the disciplined love that refuses to allow evil to masquerade as righteousness.

The dog chases its own tail and finds joy. The dog offers unconditional love. But the dog also guards the threshold, barks at intruders, and will not be bought off with treats when the house is being robbed. The following ritual is to align with this collective Trecena of Justice.
